Will Your Property Survive the Wet Weather?

With the huge amount of rain Auckland has endured over the past week and the forecast for more heavy rain to come (check forecast http://www.metservice.com/towns-cities/auckland ) it is important to make sure your grounds remain stable to protect your home and other properties.

To prevent land movement and slips during sustained wet weather ensure all drains, spouting and downpipes are in working order.

Check to see that Council storm water drains are working properly so that excess run-off does not cause flooding onto your property.  Here is a link to information from Council about storm water http://www.aucklandcity.govt.nz/council/services/stormwater/about.asp

In some cases there might be maintenance required to ensure Council storm water drains are working properly.

When are Retaining Walls Needed?

There are many reasons a retaining wall might be needed.

  • Slips
  • Unstable ground
  • Renovations, basement or under-house excavations
  • Driveway support
  • Landscaping to create better outdoor spaces
  • To create gardens

The Kawau Island Beach House project for instance required clever engineering, complex excavation and structural retaining walls to create a building platform  and outdoor spaces for gardens on a seemingly un-buildable clay soil site.

The result is a wonderful 3 bedroom 2 bathroom home, with stunning views across Bon Accord Harbour on Kawau Island in Auckland’s Hauraki Gulf.

This project included months of preparation and features the installation of a jetty and a floating pontoon.
